Engaging with our communities and creating an impact where we live is a key part of being a Procorian. We recognize that individual action can be just as important as the actions of many. Through our Procore Cares program, we foster a culture of giving back where we aim to make meaningful and lasting differences in the communities with which we are connected.
To help make this happen, Procore Technologies provides our employees the opportunity to commit up to two full working days to volunteer activities. In my role as the program manager for Procore Cares, our volunteer and giving program, I orchestrate collaborative initiatives across all teams and departments. My role is all about identifying and implementing impactful community engagement activities, ranging from Habitat for Humanity builds to kit-making for vulnerable communities to sneaker drives (you can often see pictures of employees volunteering over on our Life At Procore Instagram). With a globally distributed workforce, however, creating in-person initiatives for everyone to participate in isn’t always possible. We encourage employees to also engage in volunteer programs that they feel are important in their communities and use their volunteer time to spend there.
This year alone, we have held 48 volunteer events, dedicated 3,100 hours and supported 181 causes. That’s an impact that I am proud of!
Why do we do this? I asked some of our employees to share why volunteering is important to them.
Procore Employees Make an Impact In Their Communities
For Sarita, a custom solutions project manager, she says that volunteering provides a healthy boost to her self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. “It is my way of expressing my gratitude and honoring my mother. I was taught that when you give generously out of love, you tap into the very source of blessings and wealth. I am able to share this with my kids and grandkids, and it makes them phenomenal humans.”
Scott, a manager on our data engineering team, says, “Volunteering is so much like being a servant leader; it is all about providing folks (and animals too, in our case) the best way possible to succeed and be the best they can be!"
Teri, a project manager on our professional services team, shares, “It’s important for me to give back to my community because it strengthens community bonds, fosters personal growth, and instills a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Volunteering is more than just giving your time; it's about making a lasting impact.”
And last, Matt, a site reliability engineer, says, “When people give back, it promotes a culture of generosity rather than consumption. This shift from a ‘me’ mentality to an ‘our’ mentality promotes empathy, understanding, and mutual support.”
Procore Cares Creates a Ripple Effect
For me, being in a role where I foster community connections and facilitate giving back is more than a job; it's a profound opportunity to weave threads of compassion into everything I do. It's all about creating a ripple effect, empowering teams to be catalysts for community enrichment.
Recently, during our global volunteering day, Fuel Your Communities, our Chicago team volunteered with Meals on Wheels. At the end of our volunteering, so many seniors came up to talk with us, thank us, and ask us when we were returning. It's moments like this where the community and Procore can connect so deeply that highlight the importance of community engagement (and also make me really emotional).
Going forward into 2024, we're gearing up to forge impactful partnerships with a spectrum of construction-based non-profits. Our focus extends beyond traditional boundaries, embracing diverse opportunities that resonate with the essence of community support. From constructing ramps for those who use mobility aids to weatherizing homes and even building new ones, our commitment lies in the foundational belief that the heart of community care begins at home. We're not just constructing structures; we're building the framework and foundation for sustainable, compassionate communities.
