Have you ever stepped foot on a construction site? Me neither. Or, I should say, not until I began working at Procore Technologies.
Starting a new job is already tough enough, but when it involves changing industries entirely, it can feel completely overwhelming. When I first joined Procore as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) in June 2024, my background was in event photography. I had never worked in construction, and I had never worked in tech. I knew that my past experience working with people would translate well into sales, but I was still a little unsure if I was ready for such a big change.
Luckily, Procore doesn’t just throw you into the deep end. From day one, I could tell they genuinely wanted to help new employees like me learn and grow. Throughout onboarding week, our wonderful Construction Education (ConEd) team led an immersive crash course in all things construction — from the challenges our customers face to how we help solve them with our software. And it didn’t stop there. This team of industry experts and learning and development pros went above and beyond to make sure we understood the industry and how our company initiatives laddered up. Want to know something even cooler? Thanks to the generosity of our customers, Procore offers employees the chance to get an up-close look at construction by visiting active jobsites. When I got this offer, I couldn’t pass it up. Being able to see construction in action and bring my camera along for the ride brought everything I’d learned in Construction Bootcamp to life!

Stepping onto the McCarthy Valentine Road jobsite was eye-opening. It’s one thing to learn about construction in a classroom, but seeing it come to life right in front of you is something else entirely. I loved seeing the collaboration and problem-solving on the ground — like when the McCarthy team pulled up Procore in real time to troubleshoot a problem. It helped me appreciate the complexity of construction and see how all the small details stack up to make the bigger picture. It also made me proud to know that the tools we provide play a part in making life-changing projects like these possible.

For anyone like me who is newer to the industry, this jobsite visit was my favorite part of an already incredible onboarding curriculum. It also gave me a better understanding of our customers, which is something I now carry with me into every call. Between my past experience, this visit, the comprehensive ConEd curriculum, and role-specific training like the Sales Development Academy for SDRs like me, I have so many incredible tools at my disposal to continue building my career. I can’t wait to see where my Procore journey takes me next!
