Job Description

We’re looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to join Procore’s Product & Technology Team. Procore software solutions aim to improve the lives of everyone in construction and the people within Product & Technology are the driving force behind our innovative, top-rated global platform. We’re a customer-centric group that encompasses engineering, product, product design and data, security, and business systems.

As a Staff Technical Program Manager at Procore, you will utilize your servant-leadership skills and extensive experience with Agile/scrum teams of varying maturity levels to mentor and facilitate our Agile practices. Beyond Agile facilitation, you will manage complex technical programs, ensuring that programs are delivered on time and that dependencies are efficiently managed across teams. This role is crucial in driving our delivery success and shaping how software is delivered at Procore. A robust understanding of the Agile manifesto, and its underlying principles, combined with strong technical acumen and exceptional interpersonal skills, are essential for excelling in this role.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering, Mobile and will be based in our Austin, TX office. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you'll do:

  • Scrum Mastery: Act as the ScrumMaster for 2-3 delivery teams, facilitating all Scrum ceremonies and ensuring Agile best practices are adhered to. You will be instrumental in the teams’ Agile journeys, focusing on the principles of transparency, inspection, and adaptation.

  • Managing Complex Technical Programs: Oversee and coordinate complex technical programs, focusing on efficient project delivery and proactive management of dependencies across teams. Ensure all projects align with strategic objectives and are executed within agreed timelines.

  • Agile Release Planning: In partnership with Product, prioritize and detail upcoming roadmap items into epics and stories during Agile Release Planning sessions. Schedule the work into sprints, considering the team’s Agile maturity to introduce new practices effectively and sustainably. Ensure early identification and communication of dependencies to align efforts and enhance transparency across teams.

  • Fast Decision-Making: Lead technical teams in making swift, informed decisions by cutting short prolonged theoretical discussions and pushing for quick, practical validations via prototypes or proofs of concept. This aligns with the philosophy of "fail fast, fail often," enabling quicker learning and adaptation.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with multiple stakeholders within the organization to ensure that Agile practices are integrated seamlessly with business objectives. Work closely with other technical and non-technical teams to ensure dependencies are managed effectively and that roadblocks to team progress are minimized.

  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives for continuous process improvement, leveraging feedback and data to refine Agile practices and enhance team productivity and effectiveness.

What we are looking for:

  • Agile Expertise: You bring extensive experience and a deep understanding of Agile methodologies, having acted as a ScrumMaster and/or Agile coach across various teams for 5-7 years. Your background includes adapting Agile practices to fit diverse team dynamics and maturity levels. You have witnessed and navigated the full spectrum of Agile implementations—from highly effective to challenging scenarios—and can leverage this experience to foster high-performing teams.

  • Leadership and Coaching Skills: You are skilled in mentoring and coaching teams, guiding them on the path to becoming self-managed and advancing their Agile maturity. Your leadership style is collaborative and empowering, capable of promoting the right behaviors and cultivating an environment of continuous improvement and self-organization.

  • Technical Program Management: You possess strong technical program management skills, with 8-10 years of experience orchestrating complex projects in a tech-driven environment. Your expertise includes efficient dependency management and the utilization of advanced project management tools to align with strategic business goals.

  • Decision-Making Facilitation: With a proactive approach to decision-making, you excel at guiding technical teams through rapid ideation cycles, encouraging quick validation of concepts through prototyping or proof of concepts (POCs). You effectively prevent paralysis by analysis, helping teams to embrace the philosophy of "fail fast, fail often."

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication abilities enable you to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders, from team members to executive leadership. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are adept at building relationships across functions.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: You are proficient in identifying obstacles and swiftly devising effective strategies to overcome them, ensuring that project timelines and deliverables are met.
