We’re looking for a Flex Design Lead to join Procore’s Product & Technology team to solve some of our most ambiguous problems. Procore software solutions aim to improve the lives of everyone in construction, and the Flex Design Team is the strategic engine that ensures we are building the right things, the right way, even in our most untapped or complex areas.
In this Flex Design Lead role, you won't be tethered to a single product pillar. Instead, you will be a strategic lead for our Flex Team, responsible for managing and deploying design talent to some of Procore’s highest-priority challenges. You are a consultative captain: a senior leader who is part design strategist, part world-class practitioner, and part organizational orchestrator. You are accountable for driving speed to clarity across the platform, ensuring design decisions are grounded in customer reality and tethered to a clear business outcome.
This position reports directly to the Head of Design, providing a unique horizontal vantage point across the entire Procore ecosystem. We’re looking for a leader who thrives in ambiguity, finds energy in variety, and possesses the strategic edge to articulate how high-craft design drives revenue, retention, and competitive advantage.

What you’ll do:
The Flex Design Lead operates always as a player-coach who is comfortable moving between high-level business strategy and deep-in-the-files execution. While you will manage a group of Flex Designers to create leverage, you are primarily a craft leader who ensures the Flex Team delivers outcomes that align with Procore's goals.
1. Consultative Strategy & High-Velocity Discovery
Steward the "Big Bets": You ensure a strategic baseline is established for our most ambiguous initiatives. You translate business objectives into clear, user-centered design strategies, ensuring "0 to 1" efforts solve the right problems for both the user and the business.
Architect the End-to-End Vision: You identify and bridge the connective tissue of the platform. You lead the creation of cohesive visions for experiences that span multiple pillars, ensuring the platform feels like a unified system rather than a collection of tools.
Master of Strategic Influence: You build trust quickly with Executive Stakeholders, Product Leaders, and Product Design Leads (PDLs), helping them navigate transition points by providing the evidence needed, whether that is graduating a concept into a permanent team or handing off a project to a pillar custodian.
2. Hands-On Craft & Decision Making
Lead Through the Work: You are a Lead Doer. You step into discovery and critical design moments to create north star vignettes and high-fidelity prototypes. You don't just advise; you model what world-class looks like to resolve complexity and move work forward.
Make the Strategic Call: You exercise judgment and design savvy to resolve tradeoffs. You know when to push for pixel-perfection and when a rapid test-and-learn prototype is the more strategic path to validation.
Use Modern Tooling as Leverage: You model how to use AI, modern design, and research tools to explore and validate faster, increasing velocity without sacrificing the strategic integrity or the craft quality of the work.
3. Leadership as Organizational Leverage
Nurture an Elastic Talent Culture: You manage a group of Flex Designers, coaching them to think like consultative strategists. You teach them how to ramp up in new domains quickly and how to articulate their design decisions in terms of user value and ROI.
Orchestrate the Foundational Mode: You ensure that when Designers aren’t deployed, their time On the Bench is converted into high-value assets that elevate the entire Procore Design organization. You oversee the creation of frameworks, Figma standards, and R&D that harden our infrastructure and accelerate future work.
Monitor Span of Control: You partner with the Head of Design and Pillar Leaders to ensure our dotted-line reporting doesn't exceed our capacity for quality oversight, maintaining a cap of 6 total designers for any PDL providing daily guidance.
Proactively Build a Thriving Community: Working on a Flex Team presents its own unique challenges toward Designer engagement, happiness, and hype. You’ll be a primary steward of our culture, creating a home base that fosters a strong sense of shared pride. You’ll design rituals and connection points that keep our Designers inspired and connected to one another, and you’ll help scale that to the rest of the organization.

You Value Speed to Clarity: You recognize that the best design outcome is often a "No-Go" decision based on rapid validation. You value impact over perfection and evidence over dogma.
Requirements:
Experience: 10+ years in Product Design or Design Strategy. You have a track record of shipping high-quality work on complex B2B products and leading strategic initiatives from problem framing through delivery.
Consultancy Mindset: Experience in high-growth "0 to 1" environments or consultative design roles is highly valued. You are comfortable moving between different domains and building trust in environments you don't "own."
Business Fluency: You understand how SaaS products succeed and can articulate design decisions in terms of customer value and ROI.
Portfolio: Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of complex systems. We care about how your strategic thinking and your execution changed outcomes for users and the business.
Leadership: Experience managing and mentoring senior designers with a focus on craft, strategy, and outcome-based decision-making.
Tooling: Expert in Figma and research tools. Experience using AI to accelerate discovery, exploration, and validation is required.
