Job Description
We’re looking for a Senior Counsel, Employment Law, to join the Employment, Litigation, & Compliance (“ELC”) team in Procore’s Legal, Regulatory, & Compliance (“LRC”) Department. In this global role you will help drive scalable employment law processes and practices in our North America (NAMER) and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) regions, with a focus on providing expert, risk-adjusted advice and counsel as ELC’s primary day-to-day advisor for the EMEA region. You will also serve as a key member of various cross-functional project teams and provide support for Latin America-based employment matters, as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess the skills needed to execute the employment law team’s objectives and key results, including driving process and program improvements through training on best practices, creation of toolkits, and the implementation of other effective solutions that can be scaled to achieve broad impact and sustainability.
As Senior Counsel, Employment Law, you will partner with members of our Executive, LRC, Finance, and People teams to provide advice, counsel, and support on a broad range of global employment law matters. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to simplify legal concepts into appropriately risk-adjusted, business-oriented advice, marshal buy-in, drive change, and create effective and relevant presentation and training materials in visually captivating mediums.
This position will report to our Director & Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law. This role can be remote or based in one of Procore’s U.S.-based office locations, in either the Central or Eastern time zone, to provide critical support during EMEA working hours.
What you'll do:
Provide proactive and strategic counsel on employment law matters, primarily in support of our NAMER and EMEA regions (and additional global support, as needed), including on topics related to recruiting, restrictive covenants, interpretation of employment contracts, employee relations, performance management, terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, commission plans, pay equity, internal investigations, sick leave, compensation and benefits, privacy, remote and contingent workers, immigration, and employment-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate and strategic transactions
Counsel management on and implement practical solutions that enable business objectives while balancing legal risk
Partner effectively across Procore’s LRC and People organizations to create and ensure clarity of vision and strategy, and bring focus and direction to the most important priorities that will drive the biggest impact, mitigate the most significant risks, and deliver the greatest return on the investment of the employment law function’s resources
Anticipate legal issues and monitor emerging employment law risks, regulations, and opportunities in the jurisdictions in which we operate that may impact the business, and proactively advise the business on timely and practical adjustments to policies, practices, and procedures as necessary
Manage employment-related projects with a hands-on, results-oriented approach, including (i) building scalable legal support processes, (ii) integrating with other risk functions (e.g., Ethics & Compliance, Privacy & Data Protection, Internal Audit, and Corporate) to ensure necessary awareness and alignment, and (iii) developing global employment law solutions and toolkits and conducting trainings, feedback sessions, and audits to support effective implementation of the same
Act as the primary, hands-on legal partner for the EMEA region, directly executing and providing strategic counsel on employment matters in the UK and Ireland, including strategically managing outside counsel in other specific EMEA jurisdictions where specialized expertise is required (e.g., France, Czech Republic, Egypt, UAE) to deliver cross-jurisdictional strategic counsel and outstanding service and results
Foster a collaborative and supportive environment within LRC, with the People organization, and with other key business partners and functions
Strategically manage employment-related disputes and litigation, as well as administrative agency charges, investigations, and audits, with legal acumen and cost-effectiveness
Lead or support additional LRC projects as needed, potentially including the ongoing ownership of longer-term programs
What we're looking for:
JD from an accredited law school and must be admitted, active, and in good standing with the state bar in which the position is located, or with another state bar and registered, or eligible to register, as in-house counsel with the state bar in which the position is located
10+ years of extensive experience and expertise as a practicing attorney advising multinational business clients on global employment law matters, including 5+ years of experience as in-house employment law counsel (ideally at a SaaS or other high-growth technology company)
Deep, extensive experience and expertise advising multinational clients on EMEA employment laws, with a proven track record of drafting, negotiating, and revising agreements, policies, and programs relating to employment relationships in the region
Significant experience with the following jurisdictions is highly preferred: (i) U.S. employment laws across multiple states, including expertise in Texas, New York, and California, and (ii) Canadian employment law across multiple provinces, including expertise in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia
A solid understanding of international employment laws in other countries where Procore operates, such as India, Costa Rica, and Australia is beneficial
Highly agile, results-oriented, tenacious, and resilient self-starter with ability to manage shifting client demands and priorities in a fast-paced, global, high-growth environment
Detail-oriented, organized, efficient, and resourceful with exceptional follow-through skills
Exceptional business acumen, judgment, and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive information
Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to navigate a dynamic workplace to identify and collaborate with key stakeholders, influence without direct authority, and interface effectively with all business functions and levels to drive business initiatives
Demonstrated track record of successfully implementing and scaling legal solutions to achieve broad impact and sustainability
A keen interest in leveraging AI technologies (such as Google Gemini, NotebookLM, and Harvey) to amplify your reach, recapture bandwidth, and gain efficiency
Proven experience and skills working in Google applications (including Google Slides, Drive, Docs, and Sheets), Slack, Jira, DocuSign, Ironclad, SimpleLegal, Workday, HRAcuity, and ComplianceHR
Additional Information
Base Pay Range $200,000 - $275,000. Eligible for Bonus Incentive Compensation. Eligible for Equity Compensation. Procore is committed to offering competitive, fair, and commensurate compensation, and has provided an estimated pay range for this role. Actual compensation will be based on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, education or training, and location.
