We’re looking for a Principal Product Designer to join Procore’s Product & Technology Team. Procore software solutions aim to improve the lives of everyone in construction, and the Flex Design Team is the strategic engine that ensures we are building the right things, the right way, even in our most untapped or complex areas.
In this Principal-level role, you won't be tethered to a single product pillar. Instead, you will be a chief strategic practitioner within our Flex Team (like an internal design agency). You are a visionary pioneer: a designer of the highest caliber who possesses the strategic depth to navigate Procore’s most complex, wicked problems. You are accountable for driving speed to clarity for the company’s most critical future-state initiatives, using your craft to define new markets, architect long-term platform shifts, and set the standard for design excellence across the entire global organization.
This position reports to the Head of Design and will be based in Austin, TX We’re looking for a leader who thrives on high-stakes ambiguity and has a track record of shaping the trajectory of world-class products. Apply today to join our team of Groundbreakers.
What you’ll do:
The Principal Product Designer is a visionary individual contributor who operates at the highest levels of influence. You do not have direct reports, but you possess the authority and executive presence to lead the entire design organization toward a more cohesive and strategic future.
1. Architect the Future
Lead "Big Bet" Clarity: You lead the design for our most ambiguous 0-to-1 initiatives. You translate abstract business goals into tangible north star vignettes and prototypes, helping leadership make high-stakes "Go/No-Go" decisions before significant engineering resources are committed.
Master of Consultative Discovery: You have a "Day 1" process for entering new domains. You synthesize complex information quickly, identifying the most critical user needs and technical constraints to establish a strategic baseline in weeks, not months.
Master of Strategic Outcomes: You move beyond feature-delivery to business transformation. You articulate design’s role in market capture, ecosystem expansion, and long-term customer ROI.
2. Drive Systemic Cohesion
Orchestrate Platform Transformation: You identify the deep-rooted architectural fragmentation that prevents Procore from feeling like a unified system. You lead the design of cross-org frameworks that solve for the entire customer lifecycle, not just a single workflow.
Advance the Design Frontier: You are a primary driver of Procore’s design standards. You evaluate emerging technologies (like AI/ML) and determine how they should be integrated into our platform's foundational architecture to drive P&T Efficiency.
Model Elite Strategic Craft: You set the bar for excellence. You use your craft to simplify the complex, demonstrating how excellence in execution can accelerate the most difficult strategic decisions.
3. Lead with Strategic Presence
Influence at the Highest Levels: You have the executive presence to represent Design in front of Executives and P&T leadership. You are a trusted advisor to Product and Engineering, ensuring Design has a seat at the table for all major strategic pivots.
Steward of Professional Excellence: You act as a mentor and coach to Staff and Senior designers. You elevate the entire community by modeling a growth-oriented mindset, a commitment to craft, and a relentless focus on customer outcomes.
Architect the Design Machine: When on the Bench and working on Foundations, you don't just work on projects; you rethink how we work. You lead the development of the internal playbooks and methodologies that define the future of the Procore Design and the Flex model.
What we’re looking for:
We are looking for a visionary practitioner who thrives on complexity and possesses a profound strategic edge delivered through world-class craft.
You Are a Design Authority: You possess a rare combination of high-fidelity craft and deep strategic intuition. You are a master of your tools, but your real power is in your ability to influence the direction of a billion-dollar platform.
You Thrive in the Unknown: You are at your best when the brief is a single sentence and the problem hasn't been defined yet. You enjoy the challenge of building alignment across siloed organizations.
You Are a Strategic Storyteller: You can synthesize complex market data, technical constraints, and user needs into a compelling narrative that motivates an entire organization to move in a new direction.
You Measure Success by Business Transformation: You are obsessed with impact. You value a "No-Go" decision as a strategic victory and measure your success by the long-term health and coherence of the Procore platform.
Requirements:
Experience: 12+ years in Product Design or Design Strategy, with a proven track record of shaping the direction of global-scale B2B or enterprise products.
Portfolio: A portfolio of wicked problems. We want to see how you tackled ambiguity at scale, influenced executive leadership, and drove multi-year product visions from concept to reality.
Executive Presence: Demonstrated experience partnering with Executive leadership to drive strategic business outcomes.
Industry Leadership: You are recognized as a leader in the design community, with a deep understanding of current and emerging trends in UX, AI, and platform architecture.
Communication: Masterful storytelling and presentation skills, with the ability to build consensus across high-level stakeholders.
Why Join This Team?
Design is a strategic priority for every team at Procore, but the Flex Team offers a unique career path for those who thrive on horizontal impact and variety. While our embedded designers are the master architects of our core domains, owning the deep complexity and long-term legacy of a specific pillar, the Flex Team is for the strategic generalist. In this role, your domain is the entire platform. If you are a Design Leader who finds energy in the ramp-up, who loves the thrill of the unsolved, and who enjoys the consultative challenge of building trust across different groups, the Flex model is your playground.
